HISTORY

Purple Pig was founded in Melbourne in January 1970 by Stan Preston with an initial intent to provide rubber lining services to Melbourne’s Manufacturing, Processing and Heavy Industry. While providing this service, Stan quickly discovered that many of the company’s customers also had a requirement for hoses, associated fittings and other rubber products.

Purple Pig set about to increase the company’s value to its customers by continually improving and expanding from a pure manufacturing base into a wholly owned distribution network for its range of products and services within Australia. This expansion and service structure has evolved over the past 38 years, from traditional green site operations in Burnie, Tasmania in 1978, Hobart Tasmania in1981, Bayswater Victoria in 1986, Stawell Victoria in 1982 the acquisition in 1996 of All Hose New South Wales and the latest acquisition being that of Harvey Hose Supplies from Nylex Ltd. The acquisition of Harvey Hose has been Purple Pig’s largest acquisition to date and was acquired because their operations were a good fit for incorporation into the Purple Pig business. This acquisition has assisted Purple Pig in achieving an Australian wide operation.

Purple Pig now consists of 11 sales units around Australia, a manufacturing facility and and administration facility in Melbourne. Purple Pig’s aim is to continue to develop into other strategically important areas around Australia.

Purple Pig works closely with suppliers both locally and internationally, carrying respected brands such as, Gates, Optima, Norma, Plasticoat, Barfell, Conda, Goodyear, I.P.L, Macnaught, Sonsbeek, Preston, Tapex, Kinnears and the list goes on. Large stock holdings are carried in all states to ensure all customers are given the opportunity to receive reliable quality products, on time, and at competitive pricing levels.

In 2004 Purple Pig’s main distribution and administration centre in Sunshine, Victoria was awarded the revered ISO:9001:2000 accreditation, as a sign of the company’s commitment to quality processes in addition to quality product.

Purple Pig remains wholly owned by the Preston Family and intends to continue with growth objectives, through continual investment in Purple Pig’s processes, people and products to remain a respected leader in the supply of quality hoses, fittings and rubber products to major industries around Australia.
